Facebook TV to launch this August
Facebook is expected to launch an all-new service for users this August and they are now asking TV partners to submit the first episode of their spotlight shows.
Called Facebook TV, it was supposed to be launched last June, but was delayed to August. There will be two types of shows for this new feature: the blocktimers and those owned by Facebook.
The blocktimers are media companies who made a partnership with Facebook, with the latter giving them a 45 percent cut of ad revenues. The current Facebook media partners include Vox Media, ATTN, BuzzFeed, and Group Nine Media.
The second type of show will be the 20- t0 30-minute shows that are owned by Facebook.
According to Boomberg, Facebook is aiming for something better than YouTube, but they are not trying to compete with Netflix, HBO, and other exisiting video producers.
Currently, what Facebook offers is a live stream feature, wherein users can share videos real time.
