Are you loving the newly-launched ‘Street View’ in the Philippines?

Calling all residents of the Philippines: Have you tried searching for your house on the new Google Maps Street View?
Last Wednesday, September 16, Google Maps Street View was finally launched in the Philippines after an eight -year wait. The feature, as we may all know, started on May 2007, but only had images for some countries.
Considering all of the things it can provide, it is sure to garner a lot of excitement and curiosity not just among Filipinos, but with tourists as well. With Street View, you will get a first person view of navigating the whole country – it’s a cool experience to say the least.

So, how did Google do that?

Google was able to capture those street photos by using cars with 15 cameras that stand on the car’s ceiling. These cameras – which points to different angles – allow a 360° perspective of every spot that you will view.

More than just a map

If Google’s normal map was already a ton of help to you in knowing how to go to certain places, Street View will be ten times of that – it’s Google Maps on steroids. But according to Google Philippines’s country manager, Ryan Morales, helping you find places is just one side of it; it’s more than that. In an article posted in, Morales is quoted in saying that “Street View provides much more than navigation.” More so, users can “explore the country in high tech and immersive imagery.”
To start using the Street View, go to Google Maps and drag the human icon (found in the lower right side of the page) into the street you wish to. As an alternative, you can also go to Instant Street View, which provides the similar function.
